Location
Orongomai Marae is situated behind the Upper Hutt Railway Station on the corner of Park Street and Railway Avenue. The marae is towards the southern end of Maidstone Park.
General Information
Orongomai is the old name of the area where Upper Hutt now stands. It means the place of Rongomai. Orongomai Marae is a community urban-based marae that provides for all iwi away from their u-kaipo.
Rongomai Hall was first opened in 1976. Kahukura, the carved meeting house followed in May 1989 completing the marae complex. The kawa of the marae is paeke.
